OnePlus 5 to be Available Soon with Latest Features
OnePlus 5 will sport two rear cameras and exquisite processing speeds.
OnePlus 5 rumored to come out this summer
The follow-up phone to the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T will soon be released and surprisingly it won’t be called the OnePlus 4, but OnePlus 5.
The news was originally reported in The Verge and it was then confirmed by the company.
A few years ago, OnePlus was a relatively unknown phone maker and it has created a cult following for its upper-midrange hardware that usually undercuts premium priced. The last device appeared back in November.
Where is OnePlus 4?
Why is OnePlus skipping 4 and going straight to 5? According to most rumors, the number four is considered unlucky in China and this is the location where OnePlus is headquartered. It also seems that the employees from OnePlus were influenced by the retired NBA player Robert Horry, according to The Verge. There are two paintings depicting him wearing the number five on his jersey hanging in the office.
The official teases have already started appearing. CEO Pete Lau posted a teaser picture on Weibo saying that the phone is currently in the works.
The company has also released a Star Wars Day tweet with the number four crossed out by phones that were similar to lightsabers and this was probably hinting at the new name.
Despite all these hints, official features and details are still being kept secret. On the other hand, there is some information that has allegedly leaked as a listing for the OnePlus 5 appeared on retail site Oppomart.
The rumored features include the following:
- 5-inch QHD display with 2,560 x 1,440-pixel resolution
- 12 megapixel dual-rear cameras, and an 8 megapixel front camera
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor
- 6GB RAM
- Fingerprint scanner on the front
The price for the device is also listed, $449 and the estimated shipping date is somewhere around June.
